The home stretch
Well, its getting close to that time...our return to the US is fast approaching. Just 5 more days! We have definitely all enjoyed many ups and, yes, also experienced some downs, but I can say with certainty that we are all ready to come home. Some of the things we are missing: hot showers, no shortage of toilet paper, any food other than fish and rice, clean feet, the English language, and of course our families and friends. I know I personally cannot wait to be sipping a beer with friends at Old City Hall next week!
But our last few days will no doubt fly by, as they are filled with our final rush of activities. A visit to Dakar University, the African Art Museum, some shopping at the market, another trip to Isle de Goree, and a visit to a plantation to help plant fruit trees in the bush...
I will be sad, most of all, to leave Tino and the kids. They have been the most gracious and loving hosts, even in the worst of situations, and I have grown very attached to this family. They are so open and kind and good to us.
Tim, how is Harold? I miss him.
Russell, enjoy your visit with Alan! I wish I could be there too.

It's Tim. It sounds like you are having the adventure of your life, my friend. The pictures are incredible. I'm so jealous!
Harold will be pleased to have you back home. He is doing well. We made some small (easy) changes to his diet and it seems to be doing him well. He's probably going to be spoiled when you get back. Stephanie walks him a couple of times during the day, and he loves being around Burt. Burt might not always feel the same. :) You might have to get a nanny for Harold.
I'm at work, so I must go. Drop me a note and let me know your plans for picking up the pooch.
Peace,
Tim
Dear all:
It has been fun to see your postings. I trust everyone has grown from their inevitable "ups and down". That is a fairly common experience for GSE teams who are away from their own culture for such a relatively long time. That is part of the experience and helps one grow as sensitive, caring individuals. We are all looking forward to hearing about your adventures. From my perspective you have lived up to every expectation of being a great GSE Team! Have a wonderful last week and a bon voyage home. Remember, a cold beer is only days away.
Sincerely,
Tom Erickson

What a journey.
Oh - I forgot - cheeseburgers on the grill in springtime along with that OCD beer...
